It's Election Day! 🗳️ And a BIG day for many of our high school students, as today marks the first time they can vote in a government election! Who else remembers their first time voting?!
In the words of Roosevelt High School's Nathan Welbig, voting is "a good right to have that some countries don't get."
Do your part as a U.S. citizen like Rubben, Nathan, Caliann, Alex, and so many others are doing today, and get out and vote! It's not just for our future but for the future of our students.

Don't forget Daylight Savings Time occurred this weekend! ⏰⏰⏰
Be sure to check your clocks to ensure they're right before heading out the door tomorrow!

This week on the District News Minute: Vision and Voice continues a long legacy of excellence, Jefferson's PBL Academy is accepting applications, and the 2nd quarter is underway! https://youtu.be/A5g94jIHFII

We’ve added another exciting feature to our Sioux Falls School District website! Each middle and high school now has their very own activities page. Find all of your activity related items (including athletics and fine arts) in one place! Visit the main activities page to find your school here. https://www.sf.k12.sd.us/page/activities

A reminder to fill out a Free/Reduced application for student meal assistance, an explanation of how SFSD is cutting down food waste in our schools through 'offer versus serve,' and an apple nacho recipe. All this and more is in this month's What's the Scoop newsletter!
Check it out here! ---> https://www.smore.com/fkas1

And with a blink of an eye, we are already a quarter way through the 2022-2023 school year! The second quarter is here, and it’s a busy one! While this time of year tends to get chaotic, it’s important to remember how crucial student attendance is. Chronic absenteeism is a serious problem in South Dakota - a problem SFSD is committed to improving. Missing just two days a month can hurt a student’s grades and increase their chance of dropping out. Make sure your student is on the path to a bright future – and that starts in the classroom!

November is the official kick-off to the season of giving! We know money is tight for many, but what if we told you there was a way to give this season without having to make any kind of financial donation? Consider becoming a mentor in our public schools! Investing just one hour of your time each week can begin to change lives for generations to come. And you may realize your return on investment is more than you could have ever imagined.

Brand new from our Media Arts students at the CTE Academy: This week on the District News Minute - Read for the Record, a HUGE orchestra event coming up soon, and growing diversity in our classrooms! https://youtu.be/oK5ioW4gTSU

You won't catch her reading (for fun) at work, and you'll never hear her "shushing" kids. This librarian has transformed the center of Whittier Middle School into its heart. Students and staff want to be here constantly. Because of Becky. https://youtu.be/Hw55W-Cva00

At a HS facility like the CTE Academy, business is everything: sponsorships, internships, job shadows, guest speakers, career fairs, field trips and career planning. So the business manager is BUSY. But she's so much more than that. Meet Lynn. https://youtu.be/vN0h4YNErZw

Elementary students across the District celebrated National Read for the Record Day today! 📚
Read for the Record brings together millions of adults and children across the nation each year as they read the same book on the same day, building an intergenerational community through reading. This year's book selection was Nigel and the Moon by Antwan Eady, which encourages children to celebrate where they come from, who they are, and who they want to be.
Community members like Mayor Paul TenHaken and Vaney Hariri helped students celebrate the day with a virtual reading of Nigel and the Moon, and South Dakota's very own Secretary of Education, Tiffany Sanderson, stopped by R.F. Pettigrew Elementary for an in-person reading of the book.
Thanks to all those who helped us celebrate this special day!

Today we introduce you to our second All Star of the year, Bobbie Williams! 🤩Bobbie is one of our outstanding staff members at Community Campus that provides programming for our Sioux Falls School District students ages 18-21.
Bobbie's co-worker Sarah nominated her and shared this about her "Bobbie has so much knowledge regarding transition and takes on many extra tasks willingly. She is always encouraging of others and leads our staff in teacher appreciation activities to celebrate our wonderful teachers at Community Campus. She is kind, caring and loves what she does for our students with disabilities. She has been a role model for new staff and always helps out (even without being asked), whether it's teaching a class or helping a co-worker problem-solve. She is welcoming to new staff and a true team player. The SFSD is so fortunate to have Bobbie on our team."
Thank you, Bobbie for being an integral part of our District! 🌟
