A warm (literally) THANK YOU to our friends at Pheasantland Industries for delivering a large donation of mittens to our Community Engagement Center at Axtell Park. Thanks to this generous donation, Sioux Falls School District students and families in need will be a little warmer during these cold months ahead. Not only will Pheasantland's generosity warm the hands of so many, but it warms our hearts as well to have such a supportive community! Thank you!
Today is Education Assistant's (EA) Day! Our Education Assistants are crucial parts of our educational process. They develop important relationships with our students, support teachers, fill all kinds of roles throughout the day, and can leave each afternoon knowing they've made a difference in the lives of kids. Please join us in honoring these educational professionals on this special day!

Happy Veteran's Day! ❤️🤍💙
The freedoms we enjoy, such as attending safe & welcoming schools, are directly tied to the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have served our country. All schools and offices are closed today in honor of this holiday. Thank you, vets!
A reminder there will be NO school tomorrow (November 11) in honor of Veteran's Day. Thank you to all who have served! ❤️🤍💙

It's Election Day! 🗳️ And a BIG day for many of our high school students, as today marks the first time they can vote in a government election! Who else remembers their first time voting?!
In the words of Roosevelt High School's Nathan Welbig, voting is "a good right to have that some countries don't get."
Do your part as a U.S. citizen like Rubben, Nathan, Caliann, Alex, and so many others are doing today, and get out and vote! It's not just for our future but for the future of our students.

This week on the District News Minute: Vision and Voice continues a long legacy of excellence, Jefferson's PBL Academy is accepting applications, and the 2nd quarter is underway! https://youtu.be/A5g94jIHFII
We’ve added another exciting feature to our Sioux Falls School District website! Each middle and high school now has their very own activities page. Find all of your activity related items (including athletics and fine arts) in one place! Visit the main activities page to find your school here. https://www.sf.k12.sd.us/page/activities
And with a blink of an eye, we are already a quarter way through the 2022-2023 school year! The second quarter is here, and it’s a busy one! While this time of year tends to get chaotic, it’s important to remember how crucial student attendance is. Chronic absenteeism is a serious problem in South Dakota - a problem SFSD is committed to improving. Missing just two days a month can hurt a student’s grades and increase their chance of dropping out. Make sure your student is on the path to a bright future – and that starts in the classroom!
A reminder to fill out a Free/Reduced application for student meal assistance, an explanation of how SFSD is cutting down food waste in our schools through 'offer versus serve,' and an apple nacho recipe. All this and more is in this month's What's the Scoop newsletter!

November is the official kick-off to the season of giving! We know money is tight for many, but what if we told you there was a way to give this season without having to make any kind of financial donation? Consider becoming a mentor in our public schools! Investing just one hour of your time each week can begin to change lives for generations to come. And you may realize your return on investment is more than you could have ever imagined.
