Congratulations to Katrina Mize on being a SFSD All Star! Katrina is a building manager at Patrick Henry Middle School and was nominated by her colleague Holly Gage. Holly shared how easy it is to work with Katrina and had this to say, "Katrina is a joy to work with everyday. She is one of the hardest working people in our building. She comes to all situations with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. I enjoy talking and interacting with her everyday. We request a lot of Katrina throughout the school year and she is always willing to help out and offer suggestions. She goes above and beyond and is very reliable." Congrats, Katrina!
The 2023 Sioux Falls School Board Election is underway. Absentee voting is open now at the Instructional Planning Center, and election day is May 16th.
We have become aware of a scam circulating that appears as if SFSD Child Nutrition Coordinator Gay Anderson is asking people to go out and purchase large dollar amounts of gift cards. Gay has NOT sent out a text or an email. Her communication devices appear to have been hacked. Please delete any communication and do not follow through with the request. We apologize for this inconvenience.
A new episode of the SFSD podcast is available now!
We know that our teachers in the Sioux Falls School District do amazing things everyday inside their classrooms. In this mini-series 'By Day/By Night', we're taking a look at teachers who do amazing things outside of their roles as educators.
Laura Wiebelhaus is a kindergarten teacher at Eugene Field A+ Elementary and recent recipient of the Distinguished Educator Award. She speaks about her love for sports, gardening, working at summer camps and raising goats!

Today is National Teacher Appreciation Day! Sioux Falls School District teachers are at the core of what makes our district so special. They play a key role in the community by not only teaching their specialized subjects, but also by imparting valuable life lessons and exposing students to new ideas.
Teachers are a reliable and trustworthy source of support for their students. Many SFSD teachers continue to go above and beyond their expectations, creating new and exciting opportunities for students to learn and grow.
We all have "that one teacher"; that one whose name we'll never forget. Let's take some time to say thank you to the teachers that make such a monumental impact on our students everyday!
We can officially "close the book" on this year's Everybody Reads initiative! Between the Sioux Falls School District and Siouxland Libraries we read 331,121 books! Since our goal was met, today a donation was made to REACH Literacy for $1500.00 to help promote their mission of spreading literacy in our community. Thank you to everyone who read a book and helped contribute to this year's success! And thank you to the sponsors (Mackin, Bound to Stay Bound, and Overdrive/Sora) for making this donation possible!
We are proud to announce the Sioux Falls School District has been named a #BestCommunitiesforMusicEducation from @nammfoundation for its outstanding commitment to music education! Congratulations to our music educators, our talented students, and our community for your support!
At last night’s Sioux Falls Storm game Levo Credit Union presented the Sioux Falls School District with a check for over $14,000 to be used for Operation Hope and Caring.
Levo has been raising funds for Operation Hope and Caring which will go towards our schools that don’t have functioning PTA’s/PTO’s for things like school lunch, school supplies, winter boots, and field trips. A big thank you to Levo Credit Union and everybody who helped to raise funds for this important mission!
Roosevelt Theater presents "The Puffs" (One Act for Young Wizards) May 4, 5 and 6!
It's normal for new hires in the SFSD to feel overwhelmed, but they're never alone. For teachers, there are constant supports: new hire meetings, instructional coaches, teacher mentors, and more. But don't take our word for it. https://youtu.be/-TvVu7_5_BY
While adhering to strict federal nutrition guidelines, upholding integral health standards, & navigating supply chain issues, our Child Nutrition team serves 10s of 1000s of breakfasts & lunches every day. April helps ensure every job gets done daily. https://youtu.be/ypqmMjTWpN0
8th grade girls who are part of the Native American Connections class at Whittier Middle School have been working on making their own traditional ribbon skirts. With a donation from SDSU to purchase materials, they've been working in the library to fit, cut, and sew their garments. Some of the student's moms have come in to volunteer as well. This project gives indigenous students an opportunity to practice an aspect of Native American tradition together and connect with cultural ideas.
Students can arrive at school each day with a vast array of concerns & challenges - hungry, sleep-deprived, grieving a situation at home & MUCH more. Tier 2 classrooms are safe places to prepare to learn, & teachers like Jessi are why they succeed. https://youtu.be/0MM2x1qaZhk

The stats are troubling-47% of SFSD students qualify for free/reduced lunches. Their family's income is not enough to make ends meet. That makes it difficult to support school fundraisers. Operation Hope & Caring helps! Get your tickets to the SF STORM game to support schools!
