Everybody Reads is about to wrap up! It's been such a joy to see our schools and libraries celebrate the joys of reading together. The partnership with our friends at Siouxland Libraries only helps to strengthen the bonds that reading as a community creates. And the raindrop displays! Watching our schools and libraries transform into a downpour of books has been amazing! Here we see Sonia Sotomayor, Robert Frost, Laura Wilder and Hawthorne Elementary schools. Like Mayor Paul TenHaken said, "Readers are Leaders." The tagline for this year will last well beyond this spring, "Rain or Shine, Everybody Reads!" #EverybodyReads
Eugene Field became South Dakota’s first A+ (arts plus academics) school in the fall of 2001. The classroom teachers and arts teachers collaborate to ensure that the curriculum is taught through the arts and the arts taught through the curriculum. Sara Hutchinson was recently surprised with the honor of being named the American Legion Educator of the Year! Sara was celebrated for her commitment to supporting students who need reading interventions and the staff members who serve them. Sara has been instrumental in the SIPPS implementation as well as the UFLI Pilot this year. Congratulations, Sara, on this well-deserved award!
This week's SFSD 🤩 All-Star 💫 is Becca Erikson! She was nominated by her colleague Abby Wheeler, who had this to say, "Becca is a huge asset to our registration department and particularly a large support to our clerical staff in the buildings. She provides Infinite Campus training to any clerical who utilize IC - this includes attendance clerical, Community campus facilitators, elementary clerical, middle school counseling secretaries, high school activities clerical, the list goes on and on. Becca does an amazing job of supporting building clerical and her job goes far beyond just Infinite Campus training. She is a great asset to our district and her knowledge of Infinite Campus and the resource she is to our clerical is so awesome."

There's only one week left of Everybody Reads! Spring has truly sprung in schools across SFSD as they fill up with raindrops to represent each book read. Here are some displays at Washington High School, Patrick Henery Middle School, Terry Redlin, Susan B. Anthony, and Cleveland Elementary. Right now we're at about 125,000 books read! We're hoping to hit our goal of 300,000 books by next Friday, so grab a book this weekend and join in the fun!
Happening TONIGHT (and tomorrow)! The 10th Annual State Visual Art Competition and Gallery. Expect to see a wide range of artistic mediums, styles, and techniques as students unleash their imaginations and showcase their artistic abilities.

For the second year, Oceti Sakowin Owauspe students at Whittier MS are making traditional Native American adornments. Ribbon skirts, ribbon shirts, and medallions; it's a way for them to honor and connect with their cultures. They plan to wear them for special events, like their 8th grade honoring ceremony coming up in May.
Through a combination of expertise in the Boys Town model and PBIS, a background in special education, a drive for excellence, clear expectations, goal-setting, compassionate thoughtfulness, and thorough school-home communication, Jennifer Aerts is a champion for her students and her school. Middle school is a pivotal time for exploration and discovery, especially when it comes to career paths. 8th-grade girls from across SFSD recently spent the day at CTE Academy for the Pizza Pop and Powertools program, an event aimed at introducing these young women to a career in trade skills and construction. Students also met with women leaders in these industries, showing that there is no limit to their future possibilities!
