The Sioux Falls School District, in partnership with the South Dakota Symphony, is enriching students’ lives through its Symphony Tour Program.
Over the past two weeks, elementary and middle school students across the District experienced live performances by the Dakota String Quartet and the Dakota Wind Quintet. These assemblies not only reinforce music education standards but also offer students an up-close encounter with professional classical music in an intimate setting.
Middle schools host an assembly every year, while elementary schools enjoy performances every other year. To kick off the third quarter, the Dakota String Quartet performed at three middle schools and six elementary schools, while the Dakota Wind Quintet brought their talents to three middle schools and five elementary schools.
Each 45-minute assembly is thoughtfully designed to make classical music accessible and meaningful, complementing the lessons students are learning in their music classrooms.
Launched during the 2023-2024 school year, the Symphony Tour Program reflects the District’s commitment to equity, ensuring that every student, regardless of background, has access to enriching cultural experiences.
Through these live performances, Sioux Falls students are discovering the beauty, power, and inspiration of music.
