Dear David,
CONGRATULATIONS! On behalf of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), it is
our distinct honor to formally invite you to serve on the newly developed National Student Advisory Council
(NSAC)!
The NFHS serves as the national leader for high school athletics and the performing arts to each of its 51
state member associations (including Washington D.C.). Within this charge, the NFHS is a strong advocate for
the 19,500 high schools and 12 million+ young adults on multiple issues that impact high school student
athletes and student artists. For decades the NFHS has hosted multiple committees and boards with adult
representation from around the country structured through 8 regional sections. Thanks to advocacy from the
Student Services Committee and the National Student Leadership Summit Planning Committee coupled with
strong support from NFHS Leadership, the NFHS Board of Directors and all 8 regional sections, we are
launching the 16-member National Student Advisory Council in January 2024!
You have been selected as 1 of 2 student leaders to represent Section 5 in this exciting, inaugural endeavor
created to bring some of the nation’s most talented student leaders to the national platform to provide voice
and choice on behalf of the many other amazing young adults within your region of the country!
Congratulations again. We are extremely excited to learn and grow with you!
The NFHS, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the national leader and advocate for high school athletics as well as fine and performing arts programs. Within our 51 member state associations (including Washington, D.C.), we serve 19,500 high schools and more than 12 million young people.
The NFHS writes playing rules for high school sports and provides guidance on a multitude of national issues. We offer online education courses for high school coaches, officials, students, parents, and speech and music leaders through the NFHS Learning Center. We showcase high school sports and performing arts online through the NFHS Network.
Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that all students have an opportunity to enjoy healthy participation, achievement and good sportsmanship in education-based activities.
The public sometimes abbreviates the full legal name of the National Federation of State High School Associations as NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL FEDERATION™ or NATIONAL FEDERATION OF HIGH SCHOOLS™. While not as accurate a description of our mission as the full legal name, the latter aligns with our acronym (“NFHS”) and suggests our mission of service to the high school community. We are proud to answer to whichever name the public may choose to call us.
The NFHS promotes amateur sports participation and athletics programs at the high school level. In addition, the NFHS provides leadership in the field of high school athletics/activities administration, establishes rules and regulations for the sanctioning of high school athletics/activities events, and formulates model rationales for high school eligibility rules for use by high school athletics/activities administrators.
