The Kindergarten and 5th grade students had a guest teacher for dance last week. Maria Travers is the parent of a third grader at EFA+ and a dancer with the LiRa Dance Theatre Company in Sioux Falls. She led them through an introductory ballet class with warm-ups at the barre, stretching, chassé steps, turns, and leaps.

Kindergarten is doing a Z to A Countdown to celebrate a fabulous year of learning.
Today was “You’ve really grown up day” for the letter "Y".

Congrats to our former student, Joseph Bumann!

Students in 103 wrote their first poems this week. The poems were about recess activities. Their favorite part was getting to share in our authors circle.

403 folded and flew paper airplanes to enhance their knowledge of prepositional phrases. Each landing was described with a prepositional phrase. Their teacher nearly lost an eye!

403 spent time with our friends from Iron Fox Farm. They learned all about soil blocking, prepared and made their own soil blocks and planted cucumbers. Their soil blocks are soaking up some light in our hallway, and the kids will water them daily.
They are excited to plant them into the ground soon!

The stats are troubling-47% of SFSD students qualify for free/reduced lunches. Their family's income is not enough to make ends meet. That makes it difficult to support school fundraisers. Operation Hope & Caring helps! Get your tickets to the SF STORM game to support schools!

This past weekend, Lincoln High School presented their musical, Big Fish.
It was wonderful to see so many of our former EFA+ students working together in this wonderful performance!

A couple of weeks ago, the Northern Lights were visible in the Sioux Falls area.
A 5th grade student and his mother, embarked on a late night adventure trying to photograph them.
Then he brought in photos for each student in his class, which inspired a mini lesson on this phenomenon.
Everyone created lovely visual representations inspired by the beautiful Northern Lights.

The School Board has voted to move the last day of student classes to Friday, May 26, 2023 - requiring students to make up two of the five days missed due to weather. Staff will report through Friday, June 2, 2023.

5th graders participated in EGGsperiments to review reading objectives for test preparation.

Today we had a special visit from the USF and WHS Women's Basketball Teams.
Our students asked questions and competed in fun contests with them.
