The Weather Service indicates the greatest threat of severe weather did not materialize in Sioux Falls. We will begin our bus routes at approximately 3pm, so there will be a slight delay in getting elementary and middle school students home. High School dismisses at normal time.

Due to the weather 4-30-24, SFSD will hold all elementary students who walk or ride the bus until the system passes. We expect the system to arrive about 2:45pm and be done around 3pm. Busses will not leave the elementary schools until it is safe to do so. This will also cause a delay in middle school bus routes, so plan accordingly. If wx is still an issue at high school dismissal time, we will encourage students to wait to leave until the system passes. Thank you.

Weather may cause some challenges at school dismissal time today. SFSD will make plans with your child's safety as our highest priority. If there are changes, parents/guardians will be contacted immediately. We ask that you please monitor your phone and email closely.

Football & Star Wars Fans Unite! Fri, May 3-7:05pm Sioux Falls STORM take on the Green Bay Blizzard to support Operation Hope & Caring, a fundraiser for SFSD elementary schools without PTAs. Wear Star Wars gear, grab a light saber, and get in on the fun!

In Art Integration, 2nd grade students created bracelets that represent at 3 digit number. Each color represents a place value (hundreds, tens, ones). The amount shows how many of each place value is in the number.
After creating their bracelets they met with classmates, to identify their partner's number, determine which number was larger, and then make an equation with both numbers. If both partners had a black band, they would add, if both had white they would subtract, and a mix would allow them to choose. They worked together to solve the equation and determine the total or difference.

5th graders are studying Greek and Latin bases to help with vocabulary. They can understand not only the word, but the definition depending on perspective.

Today first grade started their exploration of the science of chicken embryology. They will follow the development of chicken eggs in an incubator for the next 21 days. Today students learned about the parts of an egg and got to crack unfertilized eggs to explore the parts of an egg. Next week students will participate in the candling of the chicken eggs in their incubators.

The EFA+ SweetARTS Dance was an incredible night of music, dancing, and hanging out with our awesome school community.
How many elementary schools have a school dance this epic?
Special thanks to Mrs. Laura, Mrs. Soper, and their band, Sugar Daddy for providing the rock show! 🤩

Fifth graders designed new games using various props and wrote directions for their peers to follow and play.

Please see the graphic for information on the Summer Meal Program:

On Tuesday we had the Spring Orchestra and Band Concert.
The 4th and 5th graders were directed by Mrs. Bogue, Mrs. Hakeman, and Mr. Anderson. They sounded fantastic!

Intermediate students choreographed, practiced, and performed their own dances using a $15 budget.
This lesson allowed them to use their Math Smart, People Smart, and Body Smart skills.

These EFA+ students volunteered with It Takes a Village building hygiene kits, post partum kits, and new home kits for women in the community.
