The 7th grade O.S.O. students had the opportunity to get hands on with a tatanka (bison). Students learned about the cultural significance of the tatanka, specific, to the Lakota nations. Learning that basic needs were met with use of every part of the tatanka; nothing wasted, and how fun and decorative they could be as well.

A recent Facebook post regarding Washington High School falsely claimed a routine request for a birth certificate was related to immigration status. State Law (SDCL 13-27-3.1-3.3) requires all public school students to have a birth certificate on file within 30 days of enrollment. When required records are missing from student files, school staff regularly attempt to contact families before sending the required information to the State’s Attorney. These requests are made solely to ensure compliance with State Law and to maintain complete student records. They are in no way related to immigration enforcement. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our students and their families. Please reach out to your child’s school or the district office with any questions rather than relying on social media for accurate information. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping student records up to date.

Today Accelerated 8th grade Social Studies students participated in the BRMS NHD contest. The theme this year was Rights and Responsibilities and each project that was presented had a topic associated with that theme. Numerous judges volunteered to evaluate and provide feedback while students presented what they learned from their research. 15 students will be moving onto the regional contest next month. They will be announced tomorrow - stay tuned!

BRMS band students had the opportunity to listen to the Dakota Wind Quintet as a part of a partnership with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. This ensemble brings assemblies to schools around the district designed to complement classroom learning and inspire a love for music. Please help us celebrate this partnership with the incredible musicians who make it possible!
