This past weekend, Bison football players visited South Dakota State University. During their visit, players were able to engage with staff and students about the college experience, enjoy a delicious lunch, tour the Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, and finished the day by attending the SDSU vs USD football game.
Thank you to SDSU and Promising Futures Fund for giving our students a peek into college life.

We would love to see you Thursday evening in the Ben Reifel library. Parents and students will learn the impact technology can have on a student’s social and emotional well-being. Ever wonder about the apps your student is on and if they are safe? Come learn about the most dangerous apps for middle school students and how to protect your kids. Babysitting provided for younger siblings. Snacks will be served.

This past weekend, students from the Bison Marching Band marched on to the field for the Star Spangled Banner performance at the SDSU v. USD game. The students had a great day filled with many academic experiences, time with the amazing Pride of the Dakota’s Marching Band, and ended it with a great football game. We know students will remember this special day forever and thank Promising Futures for making this all possible!

Reminder! There is NO school tomorrow, Monday October 10th and Tuesday October 11th. We will see you back on Wednesday. Have a great break!

This week 6-1 accelerated science students are studying human body systems and got to do some modeling of the digestive system. What a fun hands-on lesson for students!

This past Sunday was National Custodian Appreciation
Day! We want to say thank you to these incredible individuals who help keep our facilities clean and safe.
We are so grateful for the individuals in this profession many of whom work early, early mornings or late, late
nights - all for the benefit of the students and staff at Ben Reifel. Thank you for all that you do! ❤️

This past weekend, the Ben Reifel marching band performed in the Festival of Bands event. 128 students played the song "Crazy Train" to cheers from the Bison community. We are so proud of these students and their dedication to this group.
Below is a link to a video where you can watch their performance (beginning at the 2 hour, 14 minute mark). The final performance for the year will be this Saturday alongside the SDSU Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band at 2:00pm. Feel free to tune in on your TV or in person to watch them perform the National Anthem.

Last week in science, students enjoyed a delicious treat while learning about the layers of the Earth. Each layer was represented by a piece of a Oreo, chocolate sauce, and a M&M. Yum!

Excuse us while we brag for a minute… Our Superintendent is pretty talented! Dr. Jane Stavem is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, trumpet player, French horn player, percussionist, xylophone player… oh, and she also plays harmonica! 😉 These talents, along with her deep love for all things Fine Arts, earned her the honor of Parade Marshal for Festival of Bands 2022! We are proud to be lead by someone who values the role extracurriculars play in “preparing each student to succeed in a changing world!”

The 7-2 accelerated math class completed a transformation project and spent time analyzing peer work yesterday. We sure have some talented students and artists.

Team 7-2 spent the morning making decorations for the residents at Stoney Brooke Assisted Living. In addition, they wrote letters to start a pen pal program. What a great way to give back to our Bison community. ❤️

Friday, September 30th, 2022, is Orange shirt day which began in Canada in 2013. It promotes awareness about the history of American Indian and Native Residential boarding school systems, which still impact Native American and First Nations communities in the United States and Canada. The day honors the children who were removed from their families and forced into boarding schools and remembers those who never returned home.

Updated breakfast and lunch pricing, how to re-apply for free and reduced meals, who gets low fund balance notifications, and an easy and delicious snack mix recipe to try at home. It's all in the October edition of the "What's the Scoop" newsletter from our Child Nutrition Services!
