A recent Facebook post regarding Washington High School falsely claimed a routine request for a birth certificate was related to immigration status.
State Law (SDCL 13-27-3.1-3.3) requires all public school students to have a birth certificate on file within 30 days of enrollment. When required records are missing from student files, school staff regularly attempt to contact families before sending the required information to the State’s Attorney.
These requests are made solely to ensure compliance with State Law and to maintain complete student records. They are in no way related to immigration enforcement. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our students and their families.
Please reach out to your child’s school or the district office with any questions rather than relying on social media for accurate information. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping student records up to date.

Parent-Teacher Conferences continue tonight, Thursday, February 6th at Terry Redlin Elementary. Conferences run from 3-7pm, the resource fair will be in the gym from 4:30-6:00pm, and the book fair will be open in the lunchroom during conferences. We celebrated the 100th day of school this week! Ms. Foley's 5th graders did 100 piece multiplication puzzles and hot chocolate. Ms. O's Kindergarten students made caterpillars with 10 segments (counting by 10). Happy 100 days!
Terry Redlin Elementary is looking for donations of kid boxes of Valentine's cards (any kind) and small treats to go with them so all of our students can hand out cards to their classmates. If you would like to donate, please drop them off at the school office. Thank you for considering!
