RF/CC third grade students went through the fire safety demonstration with the Sioux Falls Fire Department.

K03 friends took their quiet reading (IDR) time outside!


402 students are using visual models (fraction bars) to gain a deeper understanding of fractions. “Word problems with the aid of visual models can provide the foundation for understanding fraction concepts in depth.” Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching Grades 3-5 p. 65


5th grade Challenge Center students were excited to explore chemical reactions in a bag last week!


The School Board has voted to move the last day of student classes to Friday, May 26, 2023 - requiring students to make up two of the five days missed due to weather. Staff will report through Friday, June 2, 2023.


K03 friends practiced reading and writing their sight words today with a fun headbands game!


311 and 312 wrote informational reports and presented their reports to their classmates through a wax museum. Students dressed up as tourists and sharing about a state or a country. They participated in peer reviews and self assessments to improve their speaking and listening skills for the future.





RF/ CC students read 12,897 books through the Everybody Reads 2023 program. We are so proud of our readers!


Teachers are practicing and applying their professional learning by providing each other with corrective feedback based on errors students are making while reading texts.


311 coaching cycle: We are learning to listen carefully to provide feedback in a helpful way.


We had to increase our school wide goal! It was 6,000 books! We already met that goal! Our new goal is to read 10,000 books by March 31. Way to go, RF/CC students!



4th and 5th Grade Challenge Center classes went on a field trip to the Sanford Pentagon as part of their brain and body interim. While at the Pentagon, students had the opportunity to experience and see: -View the visiting team's locker room and hear first-hand from the Skyforce's own athletic trainer. -Tour the Sanford Fieldhouse and learn about all of the training and science that goes behind being an athlete. -Locate all of the important spaces within the Pentagon including a suite, the film room, where the press sits, and more. -Listen firsthand to players and a coach from the Skyforce discuss the importance of hard work and goal setting in life. Challenge Center is participating in March Book Madness by voting on brackets featuring 16 different biographies. Which one should every classroom have on their bookshelf?

The kindergarten students enjoyed a visit from the Zoo Mobile yesterday! They learned about a sand boa, a box turtle, a bearded dragon, and a chinchilla. Thanks to the Carmody family for sponsoring this event! What a fun experience!
