Happy National Coaches Day!
If you are a teacher or administrator in a K-12 school, then you are probably familiar with coaches. No, we’re not talking about the person with the whistle who leads the basketball team. We’re talking about instructional coaches. Instructional coaches work not only with teachers, but also with administrators and students to support teaching, learning, and professional development. They serve as mentors and role models, helping teachers stay fresh and use the latest techniques and technologies in their classrooms.
At Oscar Howe Elementary we are lucky to have one of the best around! Thank you Emily Stee!

403 has been learning about energy sources and today students got the chance to work as teams of engineers to build their very own wind turbines. They then tested them out with a wind source (a fan) and had many successes!

Teddy is still missing, who could have taken him...one of the villans pictured or was it part of the RHS Homecoming Court? Either way we sure hope he is found!
Thank you to Mason Hazlett, Jaxsen Grevengoed, Sadie Hunter, Stella Larson and Steven Harmon for visiting Oscar Howe today. The students were ecstatic to have you visit their rooms today. Congratualtions on your nominations!!!

"Stay on Track" - September is Attendance Awareness Month
Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing two or more days of school per month. And it has doubled in South Dakota since 2019. Last school year at Oscar Howe Elementary, we saw our absenteeism increase dramatically, especially in our younger grades (K and 1st).
In July, the Sioux Falls School District was awarded a grant from the SD Department of Education to help combat chronic absenteeism. Through this grant we have hired six Attendance Liaisons who will develop relationships with students and work to identify/eliminate barriers preventing school attendance. The first step towards a student's success is simply showing up!

SAFETY FIRST!
Thank you to the SFSD police department for assisting our safety patrol this morning.

Every Friday is "Spirit Wear" day at Oscar Howe! Get yours today!
