Today, students in Single Survival got real world advice from Realtor Beth Meyer and Mortgage Banker Waylon Korkow about renting, roommates, leases, homeownership, loans, credit scores and how important all those things are in their futures.



Earlier this week, Daniel Mueller, Senior Vice President, Retail Banking, One American Bank, Sioux Falls spoke to Personal Finance students about banking. Mr. Mueller shared about his career and provided students with valuable banking information.



In order to better understand how the digestive system turns food into fuel for our body, Biology students have been examining the school lunch guidelines and finding new recipes that provide adequate nutrition. On Thursday, students pitched the new meal ideas to their peers.




This week, we've been honoring students with a 3.5 or higher for the past two consecutive semesters! Students earning this academic honor were invited to attend a ceremony and reception in the commons where they received their academic letter. #competeforexcellence





Ashley Rathsachack, admissions Process Coordinator at Southeast Technical College, spoke to students taking Single Survival on Wednesday about the many programs at Southeast Technical College. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions about post high school decisions.



A HUGE congratulations goes out to George Hawkins tonight as he was just announced the official South Dakota Teacher of the Year for 2024! Mr. Hawkins is on a roll this year, having been named the Sioux Falls School District Teacher of the Year this past spring. Anyone who has gone through a class with George can tell you all this praise is well deserved. He was up against four other amazing educators across all corners of South Dakota, and we congratulate them on their nominations as well. Thank you for all you do everyday George! All JHS students taking Personal Finance participated in mock interviews on Thursday. A big thank you to our community partners for donating their time, and giving our students real world experience in interviewing.

Today, JHS students taking Single Survival were visited by special guest, SGT Ryan Dannen, from the US Army National Guard. SGT Dannen talked about employability and civilian vs military benefits.



Congratulations to George Hawkins (Jefferson HS History/Government Teacher) on being a Region 2 South Dakota Teacher of the Year Finalist! He was the recipient of the SFSD TotY award this past spring, and will now be an excellent representative of our District at a statewide level. Selection is Sept. 28th in Mitchell, SD. Keep up the amazing work, Mr. Hawkins!

Next week is Homecoming Week at JHS, and this morning it was revealed that the theme music related, with #CavsGotTheBeat! Students were also introduced to the homecoming court, and informed of the dress up days!



Last week, Mr. Hulstine's Drawing 2 students challenged their hand-eye connection, and sharpened their observational drawing skills by drawing using an "extended arm."




For the second year in a row, JHS has taken home the prize during the Presidents Bowl for most items donated. A big thank you to everyone who donated toys for local non-profit organizations.
