What is folklórico?
This type of dance reflects the traditions, cultures and beliefs of people in a particular region. Folkloric dance expresses the life and spirit of a people through its movement and music. It is both historical and current, preserving tradition yet shifting with the current times.
Show up tomorrow evening at Hayward Park for their performance at 5:30pm as part of our Somos Uno celebration to watch this amazing show!

We are SO grateful for Sonia Sotomayor PTO for showering us with love today.

For the second year in a row, the Sioux Falls School District is proud to be called one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association for Music Merchants Foundation. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, the commitment of our students, and to the close ties that have grown together over the years in our music education community. As we celebrate this recognition, let us also celebrate the power of music to inspire, educate, and unite us all.

On Mondays, the Eat Well Mobile Market will be parked at Hayward from 1-6pm.
This mobile grocery store is bringing healthy, affordable food right to our neighborhood to make it easier to get to food from the store to your table. Please stop and check them out today and every Monday.

Help us celebrate the final day of National PE & Sports Week tomorrow by dressing up as a PE teacher!!
May 1-7 is National PE & Sport Week and we celebrate of the importance of physical education and health education. Health and physical education is a critical component of a well-rounded education. It’s where students learn:
Fundamental motor skills needed to participate in physical activity, which is vital at all stages of life;
Critical personal and social skills needed to help manage daily tasks and challenges; and
Important character values such as resilience, fairness and respect.
Thank you Mr. Peterson, Mr. Borges and Mr. Beacom for teaching us so many life skills!

The Weather Service indicates the greatest threat of severe weather did not materialize in Sioux Falls. We will begin our bus routes at approximately 3pm, so there will be a slight delay in getting elementary and middle school students home. High School dismisses at normal time.

Due to the weather 4-30-24, SFSD will hold all elementary students who walk or ride the bus until the system passes. We expect the system to arrive about 2:45pm and be done around 3pm. Busses will not leave the elementary schools until it is safe to do so. This will also cause a delay in middle school bus routes, so plan accordingly. If wx is still an issue at high school dismissal time, we will encourage students to wait to leave until the system passes. Thank you.

Weather may cause some challenges at school dismissal time today. SFSD will make plans with your child's safety as our highest priority. If there are changes, parents/guardians will be contacted immediately. We ask that you please monitor your phone and email closely.

Free concert coming up at Hayward Park on May 18th!

Football & Star Wars Fans Unite! Fri, May 3-7:05pm Sioux Falls STORM take on the Green Bay Blizzard to support Operation Hope & Caring, a fundraiser for SFSD elementary schools without PTAs. Wear Star Wars gear, grab a light saber, and get in on the fun!

Dear Parents,
Growing up, we always wondered how our teachers seemed to know that exact instant we were doing something we weren't supposed to and we came to the logical conclusion--they must have eyes in the backs of their heads!
Then we became teachers and realized that teachers are just really good at knowing their kids and can guess in advance what the kids are up to.
As we work out front in the morning to get students into school safely and keep traffic moving, we wish more than ever that we really could have eyes in the back of our heads. But since we don't, the next best thing we can do is ask you to help us out.
Often times we are stopping traffic to allow cars to move out of the circle drive and we are paying attention to limited areas. We do not always know if you are sending your child across the street when we have temporarily stopped traffic. Our job is to keep traffic is moving, and the worst possible situation would be to start moving traffic while a child is trying to cross the busy street.
Our number one concern, above all others, is to keep every child as safe as humanly possible. If you park on the west side of Valley View, please send your child to one of the crosswalks. If you park on the east side of Valley View, please have them exit next to the curb rather than into the street. Also remember it is never safe to stop in the middle of the lane and let your child out of the car.
Sincerely,
The Morning Duty Crew

Wednesday, April 24th is Administrative Professionals Day!
They're some of the first people students see when they enter their school buildings every morning. They make sure offices run smoothly from one corner of the District to the other. They wear so many hats they've probably lost count of all of them by this point! Administrative professionals do the work behind the scenes every day to make sure everybody in every building has what they need. Organized, detail oriented, and on top of it (no matter what "it" may be), they make sure everything goes according to plan. Thank you to all the SFSD admin pros for making each day better!
