Congratulations to our April Students of the Month!
You truly exemplify the Edison DREAM.
We’re proud of your hard work and dedication—keep it up!

Mrs. McKay’s 6th grade class has been exploring topics like water conservation, recycling, and how to reduce and reuse in their reading workshop.
In honor of Earth Day, the class took action by cleaning up around the school to help keep our environment beautiful. Way to go, Cats! 🌎💚♻️

SD Assessment Testing is Next Week! (Monday–Thursday)
Here are a few important reminders to help our students do their best:
1. Mints & Gum Donations – If you’re able to donate mints or gum for students to use during testing, we’d be so grateful!
2. Earbuds – Students must have wired earbuds (no Bluetooth/wireless). Available in the office for $1.
3. Charged Chromebooks – Please make sure Chromebooks are fully charged each day. Chargers in backpacks = a smart idea!
4. No Phones/Watches/Fitbits – These must be turned off and kept in lockers during testing.
5. Be On Time – Testing starts 1st period. A good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and arriving on time make a big difference!
Thanks for your support as we cheer on our students!

It’s Assistant Principals Week, and we’re celebrating two incredible leaders at EMS!
We are beyond grateful for our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Kallas, who brings a calm presence, a contagious smile, and unwavering dedication to everything she does. From supporting students and staff to managing the many moving parts of our day, she leads with heart and positivity. Oh—and she's also the reigning Bus Duty Champion.
We’re also lucky to have our amazing Admin Intern, Mr. Robel, who wears many hats—especially as our Athletic Coordinator. His passion for student success, enthusiasm for Edison sports, and hands-on leadership have made a huge impact this year.
Together, they help bring the Edison DREAM to life every day by creating a positive, supportive, and high-energy environment for all.

Spring Sports Are in Full Swing at Edison!
Did you know EMS has the highest number of student-athletes participating in spring sports out of all the middle schools in the district? We’re so proud of our students for showing up, working hard, and supporting each other.
Check out some snapshots from our recent events!
You can find all spring sports schedules at the Bound link below. Come out to an event and join our amazing community as we cheer each other on. Go Cats!

Due to the projected temps, our Track Meet that was scheduled for today has been POSTPONED until Thursday, April 10th. Our Track Meet on Monday will continue as planned! Please let our Athletic Coordinator Tyler Robel (tyler.robel@k12.sd.us) know if you have any questions. Thank you and GO CATS!

Happy Librarian Appreciation Day!
A huge thank you to our Librarian, Mrs. Smith and our Library Clerical, Mrs. Hoekstra for all they do to make the library a place of learning, discovery, and fun. From recommending great books to helping students explore new ideas, their kindness and dedication make a difference every day. We appreciate all the hard work, patience, and passion they bring to our school!

Wow, what a way to celebrate reading!
Yesterday, we talked about the library and food for fines, and today we get to share some exciting news—our Everybody Reads results are in!
Edison’s goal was 750 books, and our amazing readers went above and beyond with a total of 797 books.
The City of Sioux Falls set a goal of 350,000 books, and together, readers crushed it with an incredible 409,427 books read!
All of this happened between March 1 and March 31. Huge thanks to everyone who participated and helped make this challenge such a success. Keep on reading!

National Library Week is Coming Up!
To celebrate, we are offering Food for Fines—and no, this is not an April Fools’ joke!
Students can bring in nonperishable food items from Monday, April 7, to Friday, April 11. For each item donated, $1.00 will be deducted from their library fines.
This is a limited-time opportunity—donations will only be accepted during these dates. Items brought before April 7 or after April 11 will not be accepted.
All donated food will go to Feeding South Dakota. Please encourage students to take advantage of this chance to clear their fines while supporting a great cause!

Our WEB Leaders are hard at work preparing to welcome our future EMS Cats!

Our 8th-grade Océti Šakówin Owáunspe students had an amazing opportunity to visit Augustana University!
They explored course offerings, future careers, learned some American Sign Language (ASL), toured the campus, and got a glimpse of all that college life has to offer.
This experience was a well-earned reward for their hard work, great behavior, and strong grades. We are so proud of these students and their dedication to learning!

Families of incoming 9th–12th grade students, whether your child is new to high school activities or a returning participant, make plans to attend High School Activities Night on Thursday, March 27, at 6 PM at your child’s school.

That’s a whole lot of numbers swirling around their brains. We’re circling back to say—what an amazing accomplishment! 🎉👏
