We are still celebrating last night's wonderful Teacher of the Year event! So many amazing educators to celebrate! Congratulations again to 2025 Teacher of the Year, Bruce Rekstad, who left with a $4,000 check, courtesy of our friends at Vern Eide. Also, a huge congratulations to the other four finalists, Jennifer Aerts, Bryan Aukerman, Scott Amundson, and Jessica Foley. New this year, thanks to the generosity of the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation, these four finalists walked away with $1,000 each. So many wonderful memories were shared last night! We are so grateful to everyone who attended, from nominees and their friends and families to past ToY winners, past educators, school board members, SDEA friends, and SFSD administrators, it truly was an unforgettable night! On Friday evening, EFA+ students presented their science fair projects.
The gym was filled with young scientists who shared their learning in creative ways. Including an ice cream experiment (with samples), live ferrets, a device that helps you choose your next book, and even a lesson on why we tend to lose carnival games.

EFA+ is hosting a blood drive!

A recent Facebook post regarding Washington High School falsely claimed a routine request for a birth certificate was related to immigration status.
State Law (SDCL 13-27-3.1-3.3) requires all public school students to have a birth certificate on file within 30 days of enrollment. When required records are missing from student files, school staff regularly attempt to contact families before sending the required information to the State’s Attorney.
These requests are made solely to ensure compliance with State Law and to maintain complete student records. They are in no way related to immigration enforcement. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our students and their families.
Please reach out to your child’s school or the district office with any questions rather than relying on social media for accurate information. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping student records up to date.

These creative 4th graders created Nature Art in the fresh snow!

Mark your calendar! One month from today is our All School Art Show and 5th Grade Monologue Museum

3rd grade is learning about survival and variations in traits. The students got to do an experiment with “humming bird beaks” and collecting nectar. Each "beak" had a different variation that may have created a challenge to collect enough nectar. Each student had 1 minute to collect as much nectar as they could with their chosen beak.

Yesterday EFA+ students learned about Wassily Kandinsky and Arnold Schoenberg during MI Exchange.
Kandinsky was a painter and Schoenberg was a composer.
Kandinsky experienced a neurological phenomenon called "synesthesia"--he could "hear" color.
Schoenberg's music inspired many of Kandinsky's paintings.
Students listened to one of Schoenberg's pieces and then created an artist trading card inspired by what they heard.

Our 3rd Quarter student designed cupcake collaboration with Oh My Cupcakes! is:
Lemon Burst Man by Malia
This cupcake is made of lemon cake, lemon filling, lemon frosting, topped with gummy bears, and edible glitter!
Lemon Burst Man will be available for purchase at the Art Show on March 4th and in both Oh My Cupcakes! stores March 10th-15th.

The 2nd graders visited Oh My Cupcakes! for a bakery tour.
Miss Melissa shared the story of how she had a dream to start a cupcake business where families could come enjoy cupcakes and time together. Her dream started in her kitchen and has grown to two store fronts in Sioux Falls!
Miss McKenna and the Cupcake Ninjas gave the students a tour of the bakery kitchen. They learned about the ingredients, tools, and techniques that the Cupcake Ninjas use to keep the bakery running.
Each 2nd grader got to bring a cupcake back to school to enjoy! It was a sweet experience for everyone.

On Friday, the EFA+ students competed in the SmART Bowl!
Many volunteers from our community joined to quiz and support our students.
Thank you to our volunteers, and everyone who supported our students before the event through study help and donations!

Students in K01 learned about Martin Luther King Jr. on what would have been his 96th birthday (January 15th).

Former EFA+ Eagle, Alex Strawn is part of the cast of "Fuddy Meers" a 2024 theater production at SDSU. "Fuddy Meers" has been selected to present at the 57th Annual Region 5 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Conference in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) is a national theater program. It gives college students the opportunity to have their work critiqued, improve their dramatic skills, and receive national recognition for excellence.
Congratulations to Alex and the SDSU Theater Department!

We had our final SmARTy drawing, and here are the winners!
Tomorrow EFA+ students will participate in the SmART Bowl!

This week in Physical Education, students are learning how to play Pickleball.
