Build Dakota is a South Dakota workforce development initiative that offers full-ride scholarships to students attending one of South Dakota’s four technical colleges in a high-need field. In return for the full-ride scholarship, scholars agree to work in that field, in South Dakota, for 3 years upon completion of the program. Last year Build Dakota offered full-ride scholarships to over 400 individuals and over 2800 individuals since the program began in 2015. The application window is January 1-March 31, 2023.



Our Carpentry students are learning to stake out a building foundation for excavation. Using string, stakes, sledgehammer, measuring tapes, transit, and measuring from corner to corner, the students are setting up the building to be square and level. A great educational foundation for our up and coming builders!

Biomed students have been busy working in the lab analyzing evidence from a crime scene. Students demonstrated lab skills as they analyzed hair, fingerprints, and blood to determine potential suspects.

Students in Natural Resources learned about biodiversity. Students set bug traps and then gathered data about the different species of bugs caught around campus. This helped students visualize what biodiversity looks like!

Today, the City of Sioux Falls and Sioux Area Metro pulled up at Roosevelt High School to explain the public transit "Kids Ride Free Initiative." As the city works to increase ridership and build future transit users, children can ride SAM buses with a School ID/Freedom Pass.



The Aviation students challenged their paper folding skills to see who was able to create the best paper airplane...the longest flights were 47 and 44 feet! They also created loop airplanes to see how changing the aerodynamics changes the flight path. All of the students did a wonderful job and learned a little about aerodynamics and the 4 forces. #careerandtechnicaleducation #aviation





It’s all about communication and teamwork! Mrs. Hill’s Intro to Human Services class learned the importance of communication and teamwork by “Saving Fred”. Teams had to work collaboratively to put Fred back into his boat, with his life preserver on, all while only touching Fred, his boat, and the life preserver with the 4 paperclips provided.
