Experience Desired

Minimum of 24 months of plumbing and/or heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) experience or two of the following: 1) Minimum of 12 months of on-the-job plumbing and/or HVAC experience or minimum of 12 months of District building plumbing and/or HVAC experience (Custodian Engineer); 2) Successful completion of five credit hours of vocational plumbing and/or HVAC courses, or successful completion of two plant maintenancemechanical courses sponsored by Operational Services; 3) Successful completion of three plant maintenance-mechanical courses sponsored by Operational Services (these three additional Operational Services courses will be required if the Operational Services courses option is used in above).

Physical Requirements

Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing, standing, stooping and walking. Occasional crawling, climbing, crouching and reaching

Other Requirements

Ability to pass written and hands-on job knowledge/job skill tests administered by Operational Services. Advanced boiler training and experience with boilers required. Certified in asbestos removal when required. Ability to work unsupervised. Current State Vehicle operator’s license; ability to operator all vehicles in the district safely; insurable. Good attendance. Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction. Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction. Demonstrated positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training. Subject to call beyond the regular work day and week when emergency situations arise which require immediate attention.

Essential Functions & Duties

1. Performs corrective (repair) and preventive maintenance on items at all District facilities such as mechanical systems and equipment; heating and cooling systems and equipment; temperature control systems; fire alarms and automatic sprinkler systems; electrical systems and equipment; plumbing and sewer systems and equipment; program clocks and signal systems, including building communication systems; lawnmowers, snowblowers and other grounds care equipment; general repair of building furnishings.
2. Performs site maintenance and repair work at all District facilities, such as snow removal, including operating truck-mounted snowplows and sanding equipment, and lawn irrigation system maintenance.
3. Provides miscellaneous maintenance services at all District facilities, such as replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes where scaffold is needed; remove graffiti from surfaces; deliver and/or move supplies, materials, furniture, and equipment. 4. Works on remodeling projects when needed.
5. Responds to facility emergences when needed.
6. Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment. Makes recommendations for supplies and equipment to manager.
7. Works a revised schedule during emergency periods and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.
8. Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities.
9. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Climatic Environment - Inside and Outside

Occasionally required to work at extreme temperature and humidity.

Hazards

Occasionally subjected to vibrations, mechanical and electrical hazards. Caution necessary to avoid harm from misuse of chemicals.
