Students packing welcome bags

8th Grade students in Miss Becky's Directed Studies class started the semester with $250 and a challenge.  First, they needed to choose a charitable organization in the community that could use their help.  Then, they needed to plan and organize a project to benefit their chosen charity - of course, staying within the budget.  As you can probably guess, these Whittier 8th Graders are nothing short of amazing!

Miss Becky's class took the project very seriously, and they discussed many worthy options for their project.  But in the end, the Ronald McDonald House Charities, serving the needs of sick kids and their families, won the students' hearts.  They were able to collect items and create "Welcome Bags" for families staying at the Ronald McDonald houses.  A few of the items included were:  books, a water bottle, colored pencils, a notebook, a stuffed animal, snacks and gum.

This class worked hard and made their project a complete success!  It was a great was to finish up the year by giving something back to the community.
