Ross Blank-Libra has teaching for 28 years. He has not taught at any other schools besides Washington for all 28 years which is what makes his retirement very special. While at Washington, Blank-Libra has taught biology, physical science, physics, AP environmental science, environmental science, drawing, and photography. Many seniors have taken AP environmental science from Blank-Libra. Students appreciate how he gives all students the tools they need to succeed in the classroom. Students also enjoy the humor and positive outlook on life Blank-Libra uses while teaching.
“Mr. Blank-Libra always has a positive outlook on life even on the days it seems difficult to find the positive,” said Ben Burgers.
This is not the end of Blank-Libra's time at WHS as he will be coming back to sub at WHS in his free time.
“Some of my retirement plans are to do a little subbing at WHS and go hunting and fishing in the middle of the week,” said Blank-Libra.
Some things that Blank-Libra will miss about teaching at Washington are the people he was surrounded by within this community, especially the students and staff that he worked with throughout the days of teaching.
Throughout his 28 years of teaching, he has made many memories that are very special to him.
“My favorite memory from teaching at Washington was getting the WHS prairie established and using it to teach lessons outside,” said Blank-Libra.
Blank-Libra’s classes prove to be memorable for his students.
“One of my favorite memories was when Aiden Brink, Mr. Blank-Libra, andI pranked Hoyle Bowman when he was sleeping by having Blank-Libra pour water on him,” said Janaya Boedecker.
Now that Blank-Libra will have more time on his hands, he is looking forward to being able to get back to doing some of his favorite hobbies.
“I hope to resume doing some painting and sculpting, making duck calls, tying flies, and the aforementioned hunting and fishing,” said Blank-Libra.
Congratulations to Mr. Blank-Libra on his retirement. He has impacted many students and staff at WHS. We wish him the absolute best and hope to see him visit WHS again!
