The Pettigrew Community definitely showed their support this month for the multiple benefit Lemonade Stands that all helped raise money to support the families of Tommy Lambert and Cobey DeSchepper who are both dealing with leukemia diagnoses.
We started the month with a great showing at the Positively Lemonade Stand. Positively Lemonade, Lemons For A Cause, was co-founded by Macie Miles and Lauren Olson. The girls have always had a passion for giving back, when the idea of a lemonade stand came up they knew they didn't want to keep the proceeds and the idea of Positively Lemonade, Lemons For A Cause was born. Each summer the girls choose 2 to 3 causes or non profits to donate to. Past recipients have included Almost Home Canine Rescue, Project SOS thru The Banquet, Finny Minny Farm and East River Foster Closet. The girls most recently chose Team Cobey and Tough like Tommy to receive the proceeds of their most successful lemonade stand yet. A big thank you to Pettigrew staff and students. The girls have had successful stands in the past but Tough like Tommy and Team Cobey far surpassed their goals, they were hoping to make $1000 total, so the final count of $2670 was shocking! The girls will continue to choose new recipients each summer, but none will compare with this lemonade stand and the pride they felt in helping fellow classmates.
Following suit with Positivity Lemonade were a few more Pettigrew students that held their own personal lemonade stands and also donated their funds to Tommy and Cobey.
The lemonade parade didn’t stop there! Every year the Pettigrew 3rd Grade classrooms plan and operate their own classroom lemonade stands, competing against each other for top sales and marketing strategies! This year instead of selecting their own non profits to donate to, our 3rd Graders decided their classmates Cobey and Tommy would be the recipients of their funds. If there was a coin shortage before the Pettigrew Playground Lemonade Stands, there surely is not one now!
Our students raised over $2500 for Cobey and Tommy selling lemonade on the playground!
What a great example of turning lemons into lemonade, Pettigrew students have shown. A big thank you to all of the Pettigrew Community for showing such great support!
