Crossing Guard Appreciation Day is a wonderful time to thank those who help students cross the street safely to and from school. We appreciate our 5th grader students who brave the cold temps, wind, and rain many mornings to make sure our school is safe. Next time you see one please remember to say 'THANKS'

SFSD loves our school counselors! Join us in thanking them this week (and every week) for "Helping Students Dream Big!"

January is National Mentoring Month!
Mentoring has an important impact on youth; it helps students achieve academic success, encourages participation in extracurriculars and helps provide opportunities they may not receive otherwise.
According to data acquired from MENTOR, with a mentor, young people are 55% less likely to skip a day of school, and 130% are more likely to hold leadership positions.
Lutheran Social Services (LSS) Everyday Heroes School-Based Mentoring Program and TeamMates Mentoring program have partnered with the Sioux Falls School District to provide mentors for our students. Both programs are always looking for more caring individuals to become mentors. Right now, 1 in 3 young people are growing up without a mentor, someone outside of their family who they can turn to for support and guidance.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor for the SFSD or specifically here at Oscar Howe please contact the office at 605-362-2752!

Parent-Teacher Conferences can help strengthen relationships with individual families and support student learning. Please make sure to sign up for student(s).

Last night at the Jefferson High School's Teacher Appreciation Night, our beloved teacher, Kelsi Heiberger was recognized by one of her former students. Abby Schuldt nominated Mrs. Heiberger for the award due to the lasting impact she had made on her ever since 4th grade.

"Down By The Banks" did you find yourself completely the lyrics to this childhood song? If so you are not alone. This is a simple and fun song that orginated around the 19th century. Fun to see all generations still taking part!
