The Barrel House, a locally-owned restaurant known for its commitment to community support, is proud to announce a generous pledge to the Sioux Falls School District’s Angel Fund. Starting November 25, 2024, The Barrel House will match every dollar donated to the Angel Fund, up to $100,000, through its non-profit called Hungry Hearts.

The Sioux Falls School District’s Angel Fund provides vital support to students who have negative meal account balances, ensuring that every child has access to hot, nutritious meals throughout the school year. In addition to those whose family income qualifies them for free meals, hundreds of others fall just above the poverty line, but still struggle with basic needs.

The Angel Fund plays a critical role in eliminating food insecurity for students and creating a positive, stress-free learning environment where students can focus on their studies.

"The Angel Fund is a cause close to our hearts, as no child should have to worry about having a meal," said Mark Fonder, owner of The Barrel House who has been supporting the cause since 2017. "With Hungry Hearts, we’re excited to double the impact of every dollar donated and help create a community where all students can thrive."

Community members are invited to participate in this generous matching campaign to maximize its impact. Donations to the Angel Fund can be made through cash, check, PayPal, and Venmo and will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000.

“We continue to be inspired by the generosity of The Barrel House, its customers, and the entire Sioux Falls community.  Supporting The Angel Fund makes a significant difference for students whose families are working hard to provide, but still struggling with basic needs. The matching gift comes at a time when many of us are seeking opportunities to positively impact our communities and we are extremely grateful,” says Gay Anderson, Child Nutrition Coordinator.

Donations of any size are accepted as we strive to turn $100,000 into $200,000 in support of students. Please join us in giving back and making a meaningful impact in the lives of children across our community.
