Share the Word - It's Time to Register for Kindergarten!

JFK is fortunate to have Nurse Erin at our school to help students and staff throughout the day. The school nurse provides a variety of services at school, caring for injuries and illness, helping which chronic health conditions and disabilities, providing health screenings, and other health support to students and staff. Along with that, Nurse Erin goes out of her way to make the health room a friendly and educational area for students. Currently in the health office students can learn about heart health, healthy water intake and healthy habits during cold and flu season. Thank you for all you do at JFK!

Now Registering - JFK's next Class of Soaring Eagles!
The Class of 2038!

A recent Facebook post regarding Washington High School falsely claimed a routine request for a birth certificate was related to immigration status.
State Law (SDCL 13-27-3.1-3.3) requires all public school students to have a birth certificate on file within 30 days of enrollment. When required records are missing from student files, school staff regularly attempt to contact families before sending the required information to the State’s Attorney.
These requests are made solely to ensure compliance with State Law and to maintain complete student records. They are in no way related to immigration enforcement. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our students and their families.
Please reach out to your child’s school or the district office with any questions rather than relying on social media for accurate information. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping student records up to date.

Do you have a student turning 5 yrs old before Sept 1, 2025? Kindergarten Open House is coming soon. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend! We can't wait to meet our next class of JFK Soaring Eagles!

Today 5th grade worked on one of the favorite lessons for classes every year, with Analyzing Text Structure, using Functional Text. Pictures show the instructions students had to work with, students working together, and also showing their success at the sink. Be sure to ask your 5th grader about this lesson. If your students previously attended JFK, I wonder if they remember doing this?

A Jr. Kdg. student asked, "Do you know what it is the last day of?"
Then they formed the answer, "January". How awesome is that?! GREAT WORK!

Congratulations to Mrs. Creviston, JFK Kindergarten Teacher, on her nomination for the Annual Teacher of the Year Award! Mrs. Creviston joined the Sioux Falls School District in 2000. She has taught in Early Childhood SPED, 1st Grade and Kindergarten.
Mrs. Creviston states, "I’ve been so blessed to spend lots of time in the world of education, where I’ve had the chance to learn, grow, and make lots of fun memories with students, families, and colleagues. I hope to create a happy, warm, and exciting classroom where kids feel super confident, loved, and ready to learn! I want them to see all the amazing things I see in them, and I hope they leave my class, loving school, and knowing that I’ll always be one of their biggest fans!"
JFK is so thankful to have you as part of our team of teachers. You share joy with staff and students and enhance our days together. Congratulations Again on this honor of being nominated!

Thank you to all who attended the 2nd Annual JFK Literacy Night! On a cold January evening, we had a nice turnout and enjoyed stories, games and more. It is always nice to gather as a community and enjoy time together. Thank you again!

JFK is so very fortunate to have amazing staff. Our teachers work in a variety of ways to promote learning and success while meeting the needs of students. Along with this they are committed to improving their practice and positively impacting the lives of our students.
The Sioux Falls School District has Instructional Coaches to support teachers and enhance student success. Krista Peterka has served as the Instructional Coach at JFK for the past eight years. When teachers are eager to grow in their knowledge and practice, they can sign up to participate in coaching cycles and professional learning opportunities with Krista. Student-Centered Coaching is an approach that uses data to inform teaching and learning. This approach boosts the effectiveness of teachers, coaches, and most importantly, students. Krista’s greatest passion is to be in classrooms alongside students and teachers fostering growth and achievement.
In the first semester of the 24-25 School Year, we had several teachers that participated in Coaching Cycle's or Opportunities. Congratulations to Ms. Matia, Ms. Muhs, Ms. Mellegaard, Mr. Thorson, Ms. Lenz, Ms. Baker, Ms. Powell, Ms. Leininger, Ms. Tribble, Ms. Ekholm, Mr. Benda and Ms. Johnson for participating this semester. These teachers are exemplifying Lesson #3 from Jon Gordon’s The Hard Hat; “Choose to Be Humble and Hungry”. He writes: “The key to success is to be a lifelong learner who continuously works hard to improve. When you stay humble and hungry and focus on the process, you will love what the process produces.” - Pg 51.
At JFK Elementary, partnership, progress and creating a lasting impact on student learning is a focus. Thank you to each of these staff members for demonstrating that you are committed to improving your practices and positively impacting the students at JFK!

Congratulations to CLC on a successful Health and Wellness Fair held at JFK last night! We are thankful for your partnership and for all you do to support our community.
If you missed this event, there will be one more CLC Health & Wellness Fair at Anne Sullivan Elementary on March 25, from 4:30-7:00pm.
