One Book, One School

Penny War May 9th-13th  In the spirit of competition and to culminate our lemonade books, K-5 grade levels will compete against each other in a PENNY WAR.

Students may bring pennies or other coins to place in their jug or another grade levels jug.  (See coin values below)

The grade level with the most points at the end of the week, will have the staff members of their choice "PIED"!!!   Money raised will go to help purchase wireless microphones for music, and special art supplies for the art room.

What is this connected to?
Three weeks ago we kicked off our One Book One School with a bit of a different look!

Over the past 3 weeks, K-2 students have been immersed in a variety of books associated with lemonade.  (See below)  Our 3-5 students are working their way through the chapter book Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies.

K-2 students have made tons of text-to-text connections between the books they read!

All students have discussed THEMES and VOCABULARY connected to the book(s) and having a successful lemonade stand.

THEMES: Perseverance, Teamwork and Collaboration, Competition, Relationships, Recognizing and Dealing with Emotions.

VOCAB: advertise, franchise, value-added, goodwill, profit, good and service

Ask your child..

  • What is a favorite book you read?  (K-2)
  • Who is a favorite character you met?  Why?
  • What lessons did you learn from the books you read?
  • If you had a lemonade stand this summer, what would you do to get the most business and profit?
  • What mystery did Nancy Drew and her friends solve?  Who were the suspects?  How did they solve the mystery?  (Grades 1-2)
  • Which character in Lemonade War would you connect most to?  Why?  (Grades 3-5)
  • What was your favorite part of the book?  Why?

As summer approaches, please take time to think about encouraging reading in your home!  A child is never too old to be read to!  There are so many great books out there, and so many places to find them!  Happy reading!
