Other Requirements
Experience in the supervision of custodial staff preferred. Advanced boiler training and experience with boilers required. Ability to work unsupervised. Current State Vehicle operator’s license; ability to operate all vehicles in the district fleet safely; insurable. Good attendance. Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction. Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction. Demonstrated positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training.
Essential Functions & Duties
1. Performs supervisory functions of custodial staff including training/re-training of new and long-term custodial employees.
2. Participates in custodial staff evaluations and disciplinary actions.
3. Inspects daily the performance of custodial staff and adjusts work assignments to compensate for custodial absences or emergency needs.
4. Makes re-order recommendations for custodial supplies to Custodial Manager.
5. Performs minor repair maintenance.
6. Operates and checks heating, air conditioning, ventilation, electrical and mechanical systems.
7. Sweeps, dusts, arranges furniture, empties trash and pencil sharpeners, cleans chalk boards and sets up for activities. Washes walls, woodwork and windows, and cleans and polishes metal surfaces. Cleans and maintains hard and soft surface floors. Wet mops and spot cleans hard and soft surface floors. Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes restrooms and locker rooms.
8. Assists in the maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete and blacktop surfaces and playgrounds, including pedestrian walkways snow and ice removal.
9. Coordinate activity setup with building administration and custodial staff.
10. Observes and reports needed repair of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, building and site.
11. Operates and maintains security systems and opens and secures building at conclusion of shift.
12. Works a revised schedule during emergency periods and substitutes for other custodial staff.
13. Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities with other custodial staff.
14. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors
Working Conditions
Occasionally subjected to mechanical and electrical hazards, vibrations, extreme temperatures and humidity. Atmospheric conditions occasionally include fumes and dust. Caution necessary to avoid harm from misuse of chemicals.
