Requirements

Education Level

High school graduate; graduate of a 2 year Vocational / Technical HVAC program of instruction; demonstrated record of HVAC related continuing education and training.

Experience Required

Minimum of 24 months of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and control experience as a service technician (other experience can be evaluated against this criterion). Must be EPA certified.

Physical Requirements

Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places.  Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination.  Repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.  Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing, standing, stooping and walking.  Occasional crawling, climbing, crouching and reaching.

Other Requirements

Ability to pass written and hands-on job knowledge/job skill tests administered by Operational Services if required.  Advanced boiler training and experience with boilers required.  Ability to work unsupervised.  Current State Vehicle operator’s license; ability to operate all vehicles in the district fleet safely; insurable.  Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction.  Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction. Subject to call beyond the regular workday and week when emergency situations arise which require immediate attention.  Know and practice good work and safety habits, including knowledge of important MSDS, equipment safety, tool safety and ladder safety guidelines.

Essential Function & Duties

  1. Performs corrective (repair) and preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment at all District facilities without supervision or on site assistance. Equipment to include but not limited to all heating and cooling systems and equipment; temperature control systems; fire alarms and automatic sprinkler systems; electrical systems and equipment; plumbing and sewer systems and equipment; program clocks and signal systems, including building communication systems.

  2. Performs site maintenance and repair work at all District facilities, such as snow removal, including operating truck-mounted snowplows and sanding equipment.

  3. Provides miscellaneous maintenance services at all District facilities.

  4. Assists Plant Maintenance Supervisor with staff training.

  5. Works on remodeling projects when needed.

  6. Responds to facility emergencies when needed.

  7. Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment. Makes recommendations for supplies and equipment to Plant Maintenance Supervisor.

  8. Serves as a representative of the school district in a major HVAC repair or installation job.

  9. Works a revised schedule during emergency periods and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.

  10. Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Working Conditions

Occasionally required to work at extreme temperature and humidity. Occasionally subjected to vibrations, mechanical and electrical hazards, Atmospheric conditions occasionally include fumes and dust. Caution necessary to avoid harm from misuse of chemicals.
