Reports to High School Principal

Receives Guidance From High School Activities Principal, Coordinator, Athletics and Physical Education

Education Level

Bachelor’s degree in education preferred.

Experience Desired

Previous experience supervising cheer team.

Physical Requirements

Hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity, the ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, and sit. The ability to travel between locations.

Other Requirements

Fundamentals of Coaching or equivalent (must be completed one time); Sports First Aid or Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries or equivalent (must be renewed once every two years); Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know (must be renewed on an annual basis. High school/college participation preferred. Teaching assignment in building preferred.

Essential Functions & Duties

1. Follows National Federation, SDHSAA, conference and ACCAA rules and regulations.
2. Explains and defines expectations of squad.
3. Supervises all practices and handles all discipline.
4. Organizes pep rallies with approval by Activities Principal.
5. Work with Activities Principal to make necessary travel plans.
6. This position or assistant will attend all games during fall/winter sports seasons that are played in the City of Sioux Falls, Brandon, and Harrisburg. No other out of town travel for regular season. This position or assistant will travel with cheerleaders for post-season tournaments.
7. Manages budget to include Trust and Agency Fund.
8. Supervises all fund raising to supplement funds for travel, posters, and paint, camps, uniforms, supplies and meals.
9. Orders uniforms, shoes and other apparel.
10.Sets up and conducts tryouts to include hiring of competent judges.
11.Performs other duties as assigned by administration.

Working Conditions

Climatic Environment - Inside and Outside

Possibly subjected to extremes of cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees. Occasionally subjected to extreme noise, odors, mists, dust and poor ventilation.

Hazards

Possible exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases. Travel between locations will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.

Work Year

Extra duty/extra pay positions are for a fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). Duties of the position may be performed any time during that time period depending upon the position/season.
