Requirements

Education Level

Successful completion of 2-year Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Program or equivalent

Experience Required

Early Childhood or Elementary Teaching preferred; At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills, knowledge of community resources available for income eligible families.

Physical Requirements

This position requires constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.  The ability to provide support to students with behavior or self-care needs is required.

Other Requirements

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Demonstrated competency in word processing, spreadsheets, and data bases. Confirmed ability to work as a team member and demonstrated organizational skills required.

Essential Function & Duties

  1. Creates and maintains all student and parent handbooks to define program expectations and protocols.

  2. Creates student attendance calendar and employee working/in-service calendars.

  3. Supports in-service activities, trains new staff on lesson planning, curriculum implementation, snack procedures, behavior management, as needed.

  4. Visits all Early Childhood/Preschool Opportunity Classrooms routinely to provide best practice instruction support to Early Childhood/Preschool Leaders and Educational Assistants.

  5. Supports the enrollment process for all students through collaboration with other professionals and district programs.

  6. Communicates with families regarding program opportunities and eligibility.

  7. Recruits and promotes program through various venues.

  8. Supports open house events, parent conferences, and other events for parents on a routine basis to keep them well-informed about their child’s school progress.

  9. Upholds and ensures all expectations as outlined in the School Administrators of South Dakota Preschool Levels of Excellence program.

  10. Provides for the well-being, health, and safety of all students.

  11. Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families.

  12. Abides by School Board policies and rules, and handbooks.

  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Some District classrooms and work areas are not climate controlled and are subject to extremes of temperature and humidity.

Hazards

For some buildings, stairs, chalk dust and exposure to communicable diseases may be a potential hazard.  Equipment that supports classroom instruction could be potentially hazardous under certain conditions.
