2 years District custodial experience required or 1 year District custodial experience and 2 years prior custodial experience.

Physical Requirements

Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing and stooping. Occasional climbing, crawling and reaching.

Other Requirements

Advanced boiler training and experience with boilers required. Ability to work unsupervised. Good attendance. Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction. Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction. Demonstrated positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training.

Essential Functions & Duties

  1. Performs preventive maintenance and minor repair on all building equipment.

  2. Maintains, operates and checks operation of heating, air conditioning, ventilation, electrical and mechanical systems. Observes and reports needed repair of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, building and site.

  3. Assumes Building Manager responsibilities in the absence of Building Manager.

  4. Orders and replenishes custodial and maintenance supplies through the Building Custodial Manager.

  5. Assists child nutrition staff during breakfast and lunch periods.

  6. Sweeps, dusts, arranges furniture, empties trash and pencil sharpeners, cleans chalk boards and sets up for activities. Washes walls, woodwork and windows, and cleans and polishes metal surfaces. Cleans and maintains hard and soft surface floors. Wet mops and spot cleans hard and soft surface floors. Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes restrooms and locker rooms.

  7. Maintains lawns, athletic fields, landscaping, concrete and blacktop surfaces and playgrounds, including pedestrian walkways snow and ice removal.

  8. Maintains and operates security systems and opens and secures building as required.

  9. Sets up and tears down for school activities.

  10. Works a revised schedule during emergency periods and substitutes for other custodial staff when necessary.

  11. Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities with other custodial staff.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Working Conditions

Occasionally subjected to mechanical and electrical hazards, vibrations, extreme temperatures and humidity. Atmospheric conditions occasionally include fumes and dust. Caution necessary to avoid harm from misuse of chemicals.
