Education Level

Two years successful post high school education. (48 credit hours)

Experience Desired

Two years of experience with students with disabilities with at least one year of experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills; knowledge of programming for students with disabilities.

Physical Requirements

This position requires constant hand-eye, mind-eye coordination, hearing, intermittent grasping, keyboarding, speaking, and writing. Frequent filing, sitting, standing and walking are also required.

Other Requirements

Valid drivers license and ability to use personal vehicle for work. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations and implementation of student or adult programs. Flexible hours including early evenings and week-ends. Demonstrated computer proficiency with experience in word processing, databases, and spreadsheets. Confirmed ability to work as a team member and demonstrated organizational skills required.

Essential Functions & Duties

  1. Evaluates community jobs, task analyzes and prepares checklists to assist students in completing required tasks. Provides practice in real-life skills to help youth with disabilities engage in the work site.

  2. Negotiates with employer to adapt job requirements to student skills.

  3. Monitors and problem solves student performance issues with employers.

  4. Maintains clear, accurate records of student performance and communicates with students, staff, administrators and employers.

  5. Maintains employer standards and builds positive, long-term relationships with employers.

  6. Maintains Project Skills/Search folders and vocational checklists as requested.

  7. Provides transportation training and assists students in accessing transportation.

  8. May be requested by administration to transport students using personal vehicle.

  9. Assists students to acquire independent living skills in the classroom and community with or without teacher supervision.

  10. Develops information for and assists in the scheduling of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and related paperwork at teacher request.

  11. Maintains professional standards as a representative of the school district.

  12. Supports and maintains assistive technology and equipment needs of students.

  13. Occasionally provides physical assistance to students with special daily living needs.

  14. Performs other as assigned by supervisors.

Climate controlled environment with some temperature variations. Typically, work is conducted in a comfortable environment.

Hazards

May experience exposure to chalk dust, smoke, allergens, and odors specific to community job sites, and communicable disease. Travel between job sites may cause exposure to hazardous weather conditions.
